The song that moves you from the middle of the hard night to the beginning of a bright day is rarely one that is perfect, polished, or presented with a bow. It’s usually the one that’s honest, full of passion, and helps you say something that is true and right. That’s the power of of spiritual resolve – choosing to declare Kingdom truth until our feelings learn to follow. The Song Inside Of Me is a new song of celebration and resolve for the Body of Christ.
The Song Inside Of Me
Matt Bramstedt | Dan Wilt
[key of B, A, or G, chart download at bottom]
I’ve got to sing, I’ve got to sing out
I’ve got to shout, I’ve got to shout out
The One and Only, the King of Glory
You are the Song inside of me
You are the joy that I’m declaring
Releasing hope for all to carry
God, You’re alive, reclaiming lives
You are the Song inside of me
| Prechorus |
And I will sing, a song to bless Your Name
Shout it out, proclaiming Christ who reigns
To our God, You are the risen King
You are the Song inside of me
| Chorus |
And I will sing, like the sun
Shout it out, You’re the worthy One
And my heart beats like a drum
You are the Song inside of me

SONG STORY
“Sing to the Lord a new song;
sing to the Lord, all the earth.
Sing to the Lord, praise his name;
proclaim his salvation day after day.
Declare his glory among the nations,
his marvelous deeds among all peoples.
For great is the Lord and most worthy of praise;
he is to be feared above all gods.
For all the gods of the nations are idols,
but the Lord made the heavens.
Splendor and majesty are before him;
strength and glory are in his sanctuary.”
Psalm 96:1-6
MB: This song was written out of an overflow experience with the local church. Our community was experiencing a significant amount of growth and healing due to our weekly gatherings for prayer, worship, and study through the School of Kingdom Ministry. Many were experiencing and discovering God breaking into their lives, and their hearts were refreshed.
During this time, people were sharing their joy in the Lord with strangers, neighbors, and friends. We were discovering that we had something inside of us; a song to sing out. Knowing that all of us have been created to be worshippers, one of our natural responses to experiencing the overwhelming presence of the Lord is to sing a new song to Jesus. This song is a declaration that Jesus is alive within all believers.
As the risen King, He is restoring people back to their true identity, and so we have no other choice but to join with creation and sing and shout out the song that is within us. It is that indescribable sense of overflow that needs to be sung to be fully experienced. My prayer is that all people would feel the power and love of Jesus restoring their lives, and that we could join together and sing out a new song of praise.
DW: In the Vineyard family of churches (many of you I know are from other traditions), we often say we’re writing “from the Church, for the Church.” That means that our songs overflow from our local church life. In this case, two local church worship leaders wanted to co-write a song that both could use with our community, and that had celebration at the center.
It usually takes me awhile for a song to grow on me. When Matt sent me this song, I had a quick sense that it said what not only I wanted to say to God in a time of celebration, but also what I thought others might want to say. I felt spiritual resolve in the lyrics, and truth in the declarations. We went back and forth over chorus ideas, and finally arrived at this one.
“I will sing like the sun…” was the lyric phrase I wrestled over the longest. It was the first idea that came out of me when singing the chorus as it flowed from the verse, and the “as my heart beats like a drum” was the second. My love of astrophysics won out, knowing that it might take a leap for others – the cosmos is indeed singing, and the sun enfolds our lives with its creational song of worship every day. Matt led it with his church, and it resonated. The elements came together, and we agreed the song was complete.
